Its not too early to plan for Spring

Many homeowners are burned out on gardening by the time September arrives. This i unfortunate because one more surge of ambition in the fall can pay off in a early pop of color come spring. Early fall is a great time to add bulbs like tulips, crocuses, and daffodils to a perennial bed.

Flower bulbs are among the easiest and brightest plants in any garden. Once planted, spring flowering bulbs perennialize well, providing the landscape with a welcome shot of color year after year. Summer flowering bulbs, like dahlias, anemones and begonias add color, excitement and long-lasting blooms to summer gardens.

As fall arrives, it is common to hear lawn services and other businesses sell de-thatching and aeration services.

Thatch, the layer of dead and decomposing grass at the base of your lawn, has an undeserved bad reputation. While excess thatch can choke a lawn, removing too much can ruin a lawn’s ecosystem.

Aeration can help keep the thatch layer healthy, loosen soil to promote root growth, and improve the absorption of water and nutrients into the soil.
